 REQUIREMENTS: 

  1. Have been micro-chipped (or a clearly readable tattoo applied before 3 July 2011);
  2. Have been Vaccinated against Rabies after the implantation of the microchip and 21 DAYS have to pass after the vaccination;
  3. a blood sample has to be taken after 30 days from the Rabies injection;
  4. the blood should be sent to and approved laboratory for a Titration Test (approved laboratory list can be found here:            http://ec.europa.eu/food/animal/liveanimals/pets/approval_en.htm);
  5. if the outcome of the Titration test is "pass", then 3 MONTHS have to pass before travelling to EU from the date of sampling of the blood;
  6. A treatment against Tapeworms (Echinococcus) with a Praziquantel based product MUST be administered between 120 and 24 hrs prior the arrival in Malta and certified in the EU Pet Passport as per point 7 or in the Official Veterinary Health Certificate as per point 8 and 9;
  7. All the relative information have to be certified in the European Pet Passport;
  8. An Official Veterinary Health Certificate issued by the competent authority in YOUR COUNTRY OF ORIGIN using the relative form at point 9.
  9. The forms in the various linguistic versions may be downloaded here (See notes for guidance at the end of the certificate). The health certificate is valid for 10 days from the date of issue by the official veterinarian until the date of the checks at the travellers' points of entry designated by Member States and for the purpose of further movements within the Union for a total of four months from the date of issue of this certificate or until the date of expiry of the anti-rabies vaccination, whichever date is earlier. Two model certificates are present: one for more than 5 animals and the second for less than 5 animals. Please choose one accordingly.
  10. Application for pre-notify ARRIVAL OR TRANSIT OF LIVE ANIMALS and Tracking sheet (Maltese Law S.L. 315 of 2004). CLICK HERE for the application form.

THE ABSENCE OF ANY OF THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS WILL RESULT IN A REJECTION OF THE ANIMAL AT BORDER.

We will book an officer following the information provided by the tracking sheet (page 2 of the application) that will wait for you at the arrivals and proceed for the inspection.  

If any delay in your travel occurs, please call (24/7) or send a SMS 00356 9917 0532 providing NAME, SURNAME, FLIGHT/SHIP N., DAY and TIME of arrival.

If the animals will fly as CARGO from a Third Country, an IMPORT LICENSE may be required under CUSTOMS Regulation.  If it is the case please contact airfreight.customs@gov.mt


The process to authorize your pet to travel will last 2-3 days. Please pre-notify your arrival to us in time.   

The applications are processed only from Monday to Friday.
