The Veterinary Medicines Section was set up with the purpose of regulating the placing on the market, distribution and use of veterinary medicinal products, thereby promoting responsible usage of good quality, safe and effective veterinary medicinal products.
These parameters help to ensure protection of Public Health, Animal Health and Welfare, and the Environment.
The main roles of the Veterinary Medicines Section are:
-
Recommending the Director General on the granting, withdrawal or revocation of authorisations granted to veterinary pharmaceutical products in Malta.
-
Conducting inspections of wholesalers / distributors and retail pharmacies dealing with veterinary medicinal products, to ensure compliance with codes of Good Practice for both activities.
-
Providing advice to the Director General on practices and policy related to compliance with relevant EU Directives, namely 2001/82/EC & 2004/28/EC
